This review is from: Levi's Men's 527 Low Rise Boot Cut Jean (Apparel) I am a regular consumer of Levis jeans, specially the 527; in fact I own close to 12 of the 527 Jeans in different styles and colors, Levis is my preferred brand, they are stylish, the fabric is of excellent quality and they are available for a fair price. Lately I really don't understand what is going on with their quality processes. I work for an apparel manufacturing company, so I know the different steps to sew a garment, and when you are having such wide variation on the different characteristics of a product is simply because your quality control processes are not in place or they are not functioning correctly. I am writing this because I feel absolutely disappointed, a couple of months ago I bought the Levi's Young Men's 527 Low Rise Boot Cut Jean, Destructed Blue, 36x32 and it was almost 2 inches shorter than it is supposed to be. So when I received these from Amazon expecting the same fit as the 527s I bought a couple years ago I was really surprised. They were a very snug fit. They we're very similar to Levi's skinny fit jeans - not at all the look I want. Back they go. I taught 4th grade for 35 years and used picture books consistently to support curriculum. In our reading anthology there was a story about the Gold Rush. I definitely would have read this well written book during that time of study. She uses some challenging vocabulary and other language concepts, including exaggeration, that can also be discussed with the students. I am now an author myself and so I greatly appreciate when an author can get to the essence of a person in a kid-friendly way within the 32 page picture book. Tony Johnston did a fabulous job of that. Tanenbaum (Claremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews       This review is from: Levi Strauss Gets a Bright Idea: A Fairly Fabricated Story of a Pair of Pants (Hardcover) Author Tony Johnston, who has published more than 100 books for children, spins an old-fashioned tall tale based on the story of Levi Strauss and his "invention" of blue jeans in this new picture book. Filled with colorful Western-style language and illustrated with great humor by Stacy Innerst, this book would make a terrific addition to a gold rush unit at school or a discussion of tall tales. The story begins with a hilarious close-up of a bearded miner with quite a few missing teeth yelling "gold!" as the gold rush began. But the miners' pants couldn't take the rough conditions of the gold field, and soon, according to this fanciful version, miners were working in their long johns, or "naked as a jaybird." Fortunately for the miners, Levi Strauss arrived in California too late for the gold, but was "slick with a needle and scissors." Soon Levi came up with some pants in which the miners "rushed, rushed, rushed" and no harm came to the pants! And in an alternative... You can find out in this half tall tale, half biography on the life of Levi Strauss. The illustrations were done on canvas and gave the look of real blue jean pages at times! The only thing that I did not like about this book was over use of the word "dang!" It got old QUICK!! At 6'4", finding jeans that have a sufficient length provides some difficulty, and with a very narrow waist for my height (30"), it can seem downright impossible. I have no alternative to online retail for finding jeans that fit, so finding them feels very much like a hunt than a casual dressing room routine. I have tried 7 For All Mankind, Chip & Pepper, Earnest Sewn, American Eagle, and a whole slew of brands to get a feel for what's out there. I never really considered trying Levi's because they just never seemed to draw my attention. I had no interest in Levi's 501's, because I knew they fit too loose, and simply was unaware that Levi's made slim jeans in my size, particularly the 511's in 32x36. Recently, I... I purchased these for a guy who is hard to fit; trim, hard legs and slim hipped but a waist size that is shrinking. Most jeans swim on him. These fit PERFECTLY and give him a silhouette that makes sense (not too tight and definitely not too loose). He says they are totally comfortable and the best fitting jeans he has ever worn. The manufacturer says they will shrink if washed ( 1" in the waist and 2" in length)and recommends dry-cleaning. Even if cold water wash and hang dry does this it is still worth it.
